Winter Activites in Montana

Montana is a winter playground for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. With 400 inches of annual snowfall, non-existent lift lines, terrain parks and even a tubing park, these Montana ski areas are a skier and snowboarders dream come true.  From expert skiers to children, you'll find ideal conditions in Montana.

During your Montana vacation, be sure to check out cross country skiing.  The Bohard Ranch Cross-Country Ski Center is 16 miles northeast of Bozeman, and boasts over 27 km of top-of-the line groomed trails, perfect for both cross-country and skate skiing.

Montana snowmobiling is extraordinary with many different trails and areas to explore.  One of the more popular is the Big Sky Snowmobile Trail, extending 120 miles between Bozeman and Yellowstone. This trail can be broken up into 5 shorter access loops. Snowmobiles of all calibers can be rented, purchased or serviced in the area.

For the hearty and experienced, Bozeman holds some of the best ice climbing in the United States. This is also a great spectator sport, if you like watching people swing around on ropes with sharp tools. Hyalite Canyon is one of the premier climbing venues in the West and is just a short distance from Bozeman, Montana.
